Lexie tilted her head and gave him a funny look. Like most kids, she thought that “Papa” was her father’s name, like “bird” was the name for anything with feathers and a beak or “fish” was anything with fins that swam.

But there are a lot of papas,’ she thought, wiping her nose. ‘How will he know which one’s mine?

The little one paused in thought. She knew that some of her papa’s friends used to call him something else, but she couldn’t remember what it was. Then she had an idea. Some teachers told students with the same first name apart by their last name, and if they could do that with kids like her, maybe the man could do it with her papa too.

“Hubble,” Lexie stated with a nod of certainty, “Papa’s name is Hubble, and mine is too - Alexa Hubble, but everyone calls me Lexie.” She straightened up a bit, a determined look on her young face.

"Hubble…" Reggie thought the name over, but he hadn’t heard it before. Not personally, at least, "That’s real good, Lexie. If ya dad works ‘round here, we got his name down on a long list’a paper, alright?”

He flashed his best, reassuring smile, offering the little girl a hand, “You think you can come with me? Just up there,” He pointed across the way with the other hand, over some of the docks to windows seemingly suspended in air, that lead to an office, “you can wait in th’nice comfy office while I see if ya dad’s around…Don’t want ya waitin’ ‘round here by yaself in these docks, lil’lady.”

Alexa regarded him for a moment with bright but cautious eyes. He seemed nice and he didn’t act like one of the Dr. Grimes or Mrs. Sophia’s madmen. And if he knew her papa, then maybe she’d be able to get home again!

"Alright," she said, stepping out of the crate, and then in a bolder voice added, "But I’m bringing Sparks with me, okay?"

Holding his hand tight, the child looked up at him, her small eyes filled with a kind of fierce determination. But as they began to walk something occurred to her. She didn’t know this man’s name. Lexie glanced up at him, her head tilted slightly.

"You never told me your name," she stated, still looking up at him as she waited for an answer.

Bad diver girl.Reggie had never actually seen a big sister, but he had heard rumours of them… They had something to do with the little sisters, but this little girl..she wasn’t one of them. Or she wasn’t yet at least.

He frowned, though this time not in irritation, and crouched down resting his arms on his knees so that he was more her height, “I might, what’s ya dad’s name?” If it got the little girl out of the docks, he could spare a few to find her dad.

And it’d sure be worth it to him to snap at the guy for leaving a little girl unattended with how Rapture was nowadays.

Lexie tilted her head and gave him a funny look. Like most kids, she thought that “Papa” was her father’s name, like “bird” was the name for anything with feathers and a beak or “fish” was anything with fins that swam.

The little girl had just begun to fiddle with her pet project when something stopped her cold. It was a voice, a man’s voice, gruff and impatient as what she considered heavy footsteps approached her crate.

Oh no!’ she thought and looked up with panic stricken eyes as the crate lid fell away, revealing a dark haired man who looked none-too friendly.

“G-get away!” Lexie shrieked, clutching her little security bot as she shrank back into the farthest corner of the box. She didn’t like this man. Then again, she didn’t like anyone since coming Rapture, especially Dr. Grimes.

Reggie winced at the girls shrill voice, “Jesus kid, calm down—” Why was she so terrified? It’s not like he was brandishing a weapon at her—Christ. He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger.

“Ya ain’t supposed ta be down here, alight? Where th’heck are ya parents??” Reggie tried to speak softly, and despite the urgency to get the little girl out of the docks he kept his distance. He didn’t want to scare her further. Or for his ears to start bleeding.

The girl paused still huddling close to the security bot. She knew she wasn’t supposed to be down at the docks just like she knew she wasn’t supposed to talk to strangers, and here she was doing both of them at the same time. But he was asking about her parents…. did that mean he wasn’t with the bad men? The other ugly men didn’t ask about her parents, they just shouted and pushed her around. Some even tried to hurt her a time or two.

"I-I dunno," Lexie stammered, her voice soft with uncertainty, "Papa got lost on the dock and then the bad diver girl took me away. Do… do you know where he is?"

She leaned forward, holding the disabled bot like some metallic teddy bear as she looked up at him with a glint of hope in her eyes.

Inching open the crate lid, Lexie peaked out of her latest hiding place. Though considering all the people wandering by, the little girl was beginning to wonder if the big empty crate was the best hiding place after all.

“Look at all those people, Sparks,” she murmured to the busted security bot beside her, “I bet their with the bad men and Dr. Grimes. Ooh I hope not!”

And with that the little girl ducked deeper into the crate, leaving only the slightest crack between the crate and lid so as to see what was going on outside her hiding place.

“Oi, kid—!” He hadn’t believed it when he saw it, but he wasn’t seeing things. A child had just popped their head out of one of the crates. What the hell was a child even doing down in the docks?

“The fu-…heck do ya think you’re doin’?” He trudged over, flipping the lid off the top of the crate. He gave her an impatient glare, but really meant no harm to the little girl. It just really wasn’t safe for a child to be playing there.

Not to mention the mass amounts of illegal paraphernalia that some of the crates held.
